489 (Regional Sponsored) Temporary Visa

Overview:

The 489 visa is designed for international students who do not meet the direct eligibility criteria for independent skilled migration. This visa has two pathways: State or Territory government nomination and Family sponsorship. Successful nomination can earn an additional 10 points in the Expression of Interest (EOI) score. The visa allows living and working in regional Australia for 4 years. Meeting specific conditions during this period allows for a transition to the 887 Permanent Residency visa.

 

Eligibility:

  • For international students willing to move to regional areas.
  • No need for IELTS scores of 4x7.

 

Application Requirements:

  • Education requirement: Obtain a single qualification certificate with a study duration of at least two academic years or multiple qualification certificates with a total study duration of at least two academic years.
  • Study duration requirement: At least 16 months.
  • Visa application timing requirement: Apply within 6 months of receiving the graduation certificate.
  • Age requirement: Below 45.
  • English requirement: IELTS score of at least 6 in each component.
  • Occupation requirement: Nominated occupation must be on the relevant occupation list.
  • Skills assessment requirement: Pass the relevant occupation skills assessment.
  • Sponsorship requirement: Receive sponsorship from a State or Territory government or family member.
  • EOI points requirement: Score at least 60 points or more.

Transition to 887 Permanent Residency Visa:

  • Work requirement: Work in a regional area for at least 1 year.
  • Residence requirement: Live in a regional area for at least 2 years.
